How did you get started in the swimwear business?
I’ve had a thing for bikinis for as long as I can remember. I loved the outdoor lifestyle and spent many days at the beach in my teens and 20s. Once I discovered the feeling of confidence a perfect fitting bikini offered, I was hooked and knew this was my future.
How did you choose your brand’s name?
Everything that was important to me professionally and personally seemed to start with the letter “L” (Love that I was searching for, Laughter, Lounging on the beach, Living the life I envisioned…the Space that I created surrounded by what made me fulfilled and happy).
3 words to describe your brand
Fun, Fresh, and Beautiful (not only does our brand or product reflect the same vibe, but our new HQ and staff fit these words perfectly!)
What was the inspiration for your Resort 2017 collection?
We got a lot of inspiration from the late 80s/early 90s – from prints to styles we just love it all!
What swimwear trend do you think will be big in 2017?
Raising leg lines in bottoms creating a “legs for days” look. The higher the better is my motto. Colors that are trending now are the neutrals and muted shades.
If you weren’t designing swimwear, what would you be doing?
It would most likely have something to do with cats or animals. I see some sort of animal rescue in my future after retirement. =)
What does a typical day look like for you?
I’m up at 4am for a 60 minute workout, arriving to my offices around 8am ready to interact with my team. From daily design meetings to social media and marketing, I try to stay involved as much as I can in the creative and branding areas of L*Space.
If you could travel anywhere right now, where would you go?
Amalfi Coast will be one of my destinations I plan to visit in the next year or so. The inspo there would be endless.
What’s in your beach bag?
A deck of cards, my favorite sunnies, Sun Bum sunscreen (smells SO good), and of course a large bottle of Rose wine (two wine glasses) if it’s a sunset trip to the beach.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to begin his/her own swimwear line?
Focus on these three things; QUALITY, QUALITY, QUALITY (If you don’t have that you might as well throw the towel in). Learn to listen to your customers and don’t design for yourself.
